In a scathing commentary published on Tuesday by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a North Korean military commentator asserted that the three allied nations are actively enhancing their integrated warfighting capabilities through aggressive multi-domain maneuvers, pointing specifically to their high-profile participation in the US-led Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) joint naval drills.
The KCNA commentary highlighted the immense scale of the RIMPAC exercise—the world’s largest international maritime warfare deployment—noting that the 2026 iteration mobilized more than 30,000 personnel, over 30 surface warships, five submarines, and nearly 190 military aircraft. Pyongyang characterized the massive maritime maneuvers as a thin-skinned rehearsal for preemptive aggression against sovereign states in Northeast Asia. The state commentator accused Washington of leveraging Tokyo and Seoul to establish absolute military dominance across the Indo-Pacific, arguing that the persistent staging of offensive war games has pushed regional tensions to a precarious tipping point.
Beyond RIMPAC, Pyongyang directed sharp criticism toward recent combined US-South Korea aerial combat drills, joint logistics exercises, and strategic moves to restructure and upgrade US military command frameworks stationed in Japan. The commentary also condemned the growing forward-deployment of advanced American missile defense systems and strategic assets to the region. Warning of counter-measures, North Korea declared that its armed forces would respond to what it described as a threat of a new level with a strategic deterrence of a new level, signaling potential accelerations in its own nuclear and missile development programs.
In a separate statement issued by North Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pyongyang forcefully rejected recent US-led international accusations accusing the regime of conducting malicious state-sponsored cyber warfare. A ministry spokesperson dismissed the security advisories as groundless fabrications engineered to isolate North Korea diplomatically. Turning the accusations back on Washington, the spokesperson claimed that the United States is the primary offender militarizing cyberspace through expanded military cyber commands, offensive digital exercises, and advanced artificial intelligence warfare integration.
