In statements provided to the German business newspaper Handelsblatt, representatives from the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, alongside the Federal Office for Information Security, declared that the nation’s overall cyberthreat landscape is expected to deteriorate as artificial intelligence systems gain advanced capabilities.
Officials from the domestic intelligence service highlighted that the integration of artificial intelligence is dramatically lowering the traditional barriers to entry for complex cyber operations. By automating crucial phases of the attack lifecycle—including target reconnaissance, vulnerability scanning, and infrastructure scaling—AI tools enable lower-skilled actors to execute large-scale operations that were previously restricted to well-funded, highly specialized hacking groups.
